About Amanda
Who is 'Amanda Newman Photography'? I am a Toowoomba Portrait Photographer, but I can travel outside of Toowoomba if you would like me to do a shoot for you(please email me for more details). I am also a Wife and Mummy to my very cheeky little toddler Jack and amazing husband Scott. I have been a keen photographer ever since I can remember. I still recall buying the old disposable cameras when I was 13 and being so upset when I saved all my money to get it processed only to find half my photos were chopped off or completely black! Since then, I just kept on taking photos and learning! Slowly, my photos got better and for my 18th Birthday my husband brought me my first SLR Camera-a Film Pentax. This camera stuck to my side and I took endless photos and lots of trips to the lab to process my films. I started taking photos for some relatives of mine and I had lots of comments on taking photos for a career, but being the humble person I am I just blushed and thought they were being biased. I then did a couple of weddings on my own, they turned out great and I remember crying when I saw how happy the newlyweds were with their photos. From then on I decided this is what I want to do. In between all this I worked in Child Care and obtained a Certificate in Children’s Services and this is where my love of children + photography came together.
I eventually got a digital camera, but it was just a point and shoot, although it still did the job and I learnt lots with it, it just didn’t quite do it for me-I knew there was no doubt about it, I had to get a Digital SLR, they were all the rage by now!
A few weeks before our son was born, we brought a Nikon SLR Camera and I had the best little ‘prop’ to practice on! I was lucky enough I had a niece born not long after too, so I had lots of babies and very gorgeous family and friends around! Over the last couple of years, I have continued to learn and grow as a photographer, and although I have had family and friends telling me for years to go into business, I just wasn’t quite ready, my humble old self just thought I wasn’t cut out for it. I finally became ready towards the end of 2009 and officially started up Amanda Newman Photography. Since I started taking bookings, I have been far busier than I ever expected, and am now booked out up to 4 weeks in advance. I never in a million years thought I would be this sought after so soon, and I am really glad my hard work and staying up late every night has paid off.
I like to think I am a happy, down to earth person and am easy to be around. I think this helps me to achieve such brilliant photos, by making my clients feel as comfortable as possible while I am with them which therefore shines through the photos.
